Discover Our Fair's Journey and Impact
The SOKY Fair has deep roots in the region’s fair tradition, which dates back to earlier agricultural shows in Warren County (with some fairs noted along areas like Lehman Avenue in the late 1800s and early 1900s). The modern Southern Kentucky Fair began in 1952 as a modest carnival held at the old National Guard Armory on what is now Old Morgantown Road. It later moved to locations like Warren County High School before evolving into its current form.
The event has been organized by the Bowling Green/Warren County Jaycees since around 1956, with the SOKY Fair Board also involved. Over the decades, it has grown significantly while maintaining its community focus. By the 2010s and 2020s, it celebrated milestones like over 70 years of operation and 30+ years at its dedicated fairgrounds setup. Its evolution from humble beginnings to a major staple of regional summer entertainment, providing continuity and nostalgia for generations of families in the area. has been impactful.
Our Mission
As a nonprofit community project run by the Jaycees and Fair Board, the SOKY Fair emphasizes giving back. All proceeds support various charity initiatives throughout the year, with a particular focus on youth programs in South Central Kentucky. This includes support for local young people through scholarships, community projects, and youth-oriented efforts. Beyond finances, the fair fosters community bonding by bringing together families, friends, and neighbors for shared experiences—promoting local agriculture through exhibits and shows, encouraging youth involvement (e.g., via 4-H and pageants), and creating economic activity through vendors, food trucks, and attendance. It's often described as a "whirlwind of fun and community spirit" that strengthens ties in Bowling Green and surrounding areas, serving as a beloved annual tradition that highlights regional pride and togetherness.
